The Arrival
Narrative
The short film lacks a plot or narrative of sorts as it entirely consist of a singular scene.
Genre
The video centers around a single character and her personal slice of life issues such as having a child and the man she accidentally had it with making it align most clearly with the drama/ romance genre.
Representation
The main an only representation in the film comes from the central character who represents pregnant women and single mothers, the internal monologue highlighting moth the struggles and social scrutiny she faces when deciding what to do with her potential child.
Editing
Due to the camera angle never cutting there is only one instance of editing when the mothers surroundings are plunged into darkness as she ponders about her potential child. The darkening of her surroundings emphasizes the feelings of isolation and helplessness she feels due to not having a partner to support her while also illustrating how deep in thought and cut off from the rest of the world she is.
Mise en scene
White jumper - Its white coloring has connotations of fertility while also visually matching the colors of a wedding dress its inclusion here highlighting the absence of a husband/partner while also potentially foreshadowing that the man she is there to meet will eventually become her partner.
Cinematography
The short film is shot entirely in one angle/take which is an initially wide angled medium shot that slowly zooms in closer to to the woman as the film continues emphasizing her increasing feelings of isolation and and uncertainty towards her and her child's future.
